Having designed and made many pieces of wooden bespoke furniture, I'd like to think, making is my thing now.
The thrill of commissioning and collaborating with the client and then designing and creating a piece of wooden bespoke furniture knowing both you and your client are as delighted with the item, is an absolute win win. It's what the end goal is all about really.
Knowing your piece of bespoke furniture is going to be around for many years and possibly loved as much as the present owners may one day be passed on down through the generations.
Based in Edinburgh City Centre the workshop is key to producing high end bespoke handmade furniture.
Good tools and good craftsmanship make good handmade furniture it's that simple! It all starts with a goal in mind, that goal could be just wanting a handcrafted piece of Furniture that you can't seem to find or perhaps the furniture is perfect but you want it bigger or longer or a different colour. So handcrafted bespoke furniture made locally in Edinburgh is the way to go.
Once your goal is in mind, we take that goal and make it into a reality by designing it on paper, refining it until its exactly what you require and then set about bringing it all together.
Timber selection is important if the piece you are commissioning is to compliment any existing furniture in your home.
Native species of trees are the most favoured along with their European counterparts as they grow locally and transportation and carbon footprint is reduced. Timber from overseas can still be purchased but only for the most specific jobs and customer requests.
Oak, Ash and Beech timber are the preferred choices to work with as they are good to work with and look wonderful when made into bespoke handmade furniture for clients.

Restored Mid-century Sideboard
Mid-century & fully restored vintage 1950's Gordon Russell sideboard with original metal handles. The leg frame is solid oak and the sideboard carcass is Indian Laurel Veneer. It has two double cupboards and two drawers below.
Bespoke Oak rolltop desk
This handmade Oak rolltop desk features a smooth tambour slide that opens to reveal a large writing space.
With two push to open drawers concealed below the desk.

Creating your bespoke furniture
Your Bespoke Piece
Once we’ve nailed down the details, we get to work selecting the timber. The timber is then milled into usable components and construction begins. When it’s finished, your custom made piece of handcrafted furniture can be oiled, stained or painted it's your decision.
When it's ready we’ll make sure it gets to you safely where it belongs in your Edinburgh home.
